This has to be one of the prettiest places on earth. We went back there several times when we lived in Wyoming and covered all 4 seasons and each of them was special. During the summer and early fall the animals are out and moving around. The weather was great for taking hikes ranging from 100 yards on a paved trail to see a pond over look on up to hikes that have round trips of many many miles. The climbs ranged from flat ground to up the side of a mountain on a trail with views all around. During the winter and spring the mountains are snow covered, the rivers and creeks are running high, the wild life (Elk, Moose, Deer and etc) are still down in the meadows and easy to find. Of course traveling with the boys who like to hike made for some great photo opportunities as well. To find a beautiful spot for a photograph all one has to do is to get out of the car and take a look around you and it is there. The mountains are very pretty year around.

Advice

  • Wear hiking shoes that are comfortable.
  • Bring along warm cloths, even in summer time. You will be up high and we got caught in snow storms in the area in June.
  • Be in shape that will allow you to do what you want to do. You will be high up so you will get tired more quickly than normal.
  • Best time to go is in either September when the summer rush has gone but most of the park is still open, the animals are coming down and the traffic jams are caused by bear sightings as they are filling up getting ready for winter or in the late spring. The spring weather is a little more unpredictable so bring warm cloths.
