What Was Your Special/First Camera?
My first camera was a Kodak brownie, when I was about 8. I liked it enough that by the time I was 11 I was using one of my dad's Honeywell Pentax SLRs and a hand-held meter, and developing and printing B&W. The first camera I bought was a Pentax MX. Great camera, and I loved it, though I would have to say that the LX (bought because I was spending 40 hours a week doing object photography and needed a different viewfinder) was superior. Wonderful feel to it, and I always liked the color balance Pentax had -- a little warmer than Nikon's.
Tell Us the Story of Your Camera
What to say? I took lots of pictures, but when I realized everything was going onto the web decided that shooting slides and scanning them was a waste of energy and time. Better to go digital, and I've been using a point & shoot Sony for a while now. Takes excellent pictures, but I miss the control of a manual SLR.
Advice
- Being a crusty old-timer, I would say that if you want to learn how to take pictures, set the exposure controls to manual and learn how to work with shutter speed and aperture to get the effects you want. Technology is great, but you have to use it, not let it do what the programmers think you want.
