I was eight years old and earned the money fruit picking. It cost the princely sum of 5shillings (25pence) from a Woolworth store.It was special because I had worked for the money and it was the first camera I had really owned Although it looked good It was only a box camera with fixed apature and a single shutter speed of a 1/25 to 1/30th of a second and a flip up piece of rectangular chrome frame as a view finder.But it was all mine.A few months ago I saw a mint condition example of that Bakelite little beauty. For five pounds it was mine and it now has pride of place beside my Speed Graphic...Rolliflex and 1960's Zenith.

- Buy the best you can afford and remember that the name of the game is enjoyment.If you take a photograph and get what you intended than you have won. If someone else likes it then that is a bonus. But if they don't; then tough. It is their loss
