Photo Description
While zoos are excellent places to get photos of exotic animals, do not overlook the opportunity to keep your camera ready to get some shots of naturally occurring wildlife in your area.
This is a photo of a Black-Crowned Night-Heron. A pretty good sized flock of these night-herons shows up at the Louisville zoo every March and hang out near the Bald Eagle exhibit.
It provides and excellent opportunity to get some very close shots of a usually wary bird.
Tips and Tricks
- While not technically a zoo resident, these birds are can be a challenge to photograph. They like to stay in the dense tree cover near the Bald Eagle exhibit, and often create a challenge to get a good clear shot. not to mention the strange looks you get from other zoo guests as they are taking pictures of the Bald Eagle and you are shooting up in the trees.
- Usually when I point out the Night-Herons, and tell people about them, they steal the show from the Eagles,
