Photo Description
There is a garden that is carefully tended near where I go to the library. People tend to notice the overall beauty of the garden and appreciate it's colors and ambiance. I always enjoy picking out the individual parts of the whole and showcasing what I think makes the garden shine. The owners of this garden encouraged me to take photographs and "discover" what they already know. Flowers have a way of invoking feelings of softness, joy, and peaceful beauty. They also make you cheerful and contemplative. For each emotion people have there seems to be a flower that matches it. This particular flower seemed determined to have it's face to the sun and I was entranced by the perfect symmetry of the petals. The green of the grass beyond just made the overall day feel like Spring had finally arrived.
Advice
- The thing most people do in error when photographing flowers is to place the flower the center of the photograph. Placing the flower slightly off to the side provides an eye rest provides variety. Flowers become one of those things that people see without noticing after a while, placing the flower at a different angle captures interest and makes the piece more memorable. The other thing I would suggest is to stop thinking of the flower as just a pretty thing to take a photo of, when you think of the flower as your subject you tend to focus more on making it the "star" of the photo instead of just another flower.
