Photo Description

Entry #1: Face Of A Dragonfly. I had been out looking for bugs/insects and decided to sit down on our deck to look through the camera monitor at what I had captured when this dragonfly appeared. I got up and chased him around only to be brought back to the chair I was sitting in where he lit and stayed. I set the camera and held my breath to approach him hoping to get a macro of his face. I was amazed to get so close and be able to see his markings and coloring and shoot different angles. Here is the result.

Advice

  • Breathing really does send bugs away so do so through your nose and approach slowly from the side and start shooting. I actually bumped his face with the camera.

Liz Masoner, Photography Guide, says:

Requested Critique: Again, an excellent image. A touch more contrast and some light on the dragonfly would really make this pop even more. When the image viewed at full size, the focus on the snout of the dragonfly instead of the eye becomes distracting as well. Still, GREAT shot.
