Taking A Sip

Is a model release on file if needed? (Yes/No/NA)

NO

What day was the photo taken?

July 17th, 2010

Photo Description

I just put up this new Humming bird Feeder. Some how the other one got knocked down, We think the Squirrels did it. So we got a stronger Pole. I was in My Blind when this Female Ruby Throat came up for a sip. I used My Nikon D80 with 70-300-5.6 VR Nikon Lens and Fill Flash. The Hummingbird was pretty close and I thought the Flash might be able to reduce any shadows. I did have a 200-500 Tamron Lens but Hand holding the heavier Lens didn't seem to give me as a sharp image like the 70-300 Nikon VR. This is the Photo I like best out of the sequence.

Advice

  • If you don't have VR make sure you use a tripod or Bean Bag
  • Have the equipment you need out and ready to use
  • It's better to use a Shorter Light weight Telephoto than a heavy one if you are hand holding the Camera.
  • Use a Blind if possible
  • Watch the Birds activity for a few minutes after you get into the blind. A lot of times you can get the shot you want by being able to predict when the Bird will fly or come to the Feeder.
  • Try for action Pictures. Pictures of Birds taking off or Landing. This may mean that you have to take a whole series of pictures.
  • Never Give Up!
