Photo Description
The Bass guitar booms out its vibes causing the glass of water to splash about. Well, not exactly . . .electric guitars don’t actually produce much audible sound waves, but I figure it’s the thought that counts here. Rock on!
This was shot with a Pentax istDL, with a 55mm lens setting.
After trying various different lighting arrangements using flood lights, flash and both I finally decided on a camera mounted flash with a heavy diffuser rubber-banded to the front and a second tripod mounted flash set off with a photo slave.
The water effect was produced by strapping a big back massager to the bottom of the table. Then everything that could go wrong here did, from first not being able to get enough vibration to produce the effect to then having so much that the glass wouldn’t stay in frame. This picture was a real fight to get everything framed (and stay framed) and working somewhat close to what I wanted.
Advice
- If I ever try something like this again I’m going to find someone to help me. This was too much of a hassle trying to manipulate my camera and the props at the same time. Mainly even if the props hadn’t turned out to be so hard to keep under control, it’s almost impossible to get the image properly framed when you have to run around and grab the guitar and try to hold it as you saw it in your viewfinder
