Photo Description

I've not been able to identify this tree, it sits just outside Washington Square Park in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. It was the trunk that attracted me, it's unique and I wish I knew its story; it must've taken a long time to grow like that.

Advice

  • Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, EF-S17-85mm lens at 17mm, ISO 400, f/5.6 at 1/320 sec.

Liz Masoner, Photography Guide, says:

Requested Critique: This is a nice scene but the lighting creates some distractions. The dappled light on the trunk is fine but the two bright spots of sky behind the tree (due to gaps in foliage) are basically two natural frames of bright light which distracts greatly from the tree subject. Shooting from a very low angle or slight movement to one side might allow you to avoid these bright spots.
