This image is another example of environmental portraiture. The shoes are placed in a scene "natural" to them. The shoes are on a horizontal rule of thirds line to help draw the eye to the shoes. Also, the slightly forward pair of shoes works with the rock path to create a leading line to give the viewer a sense of the shoes "going somewhere".
