This sunset image uses the rule of thirds in two ways to add visual impact to the image. First, the dead tree is placed on a vertical interest line. Second, the image is roughly broken into three zones. Grass, water, and sky are all clearly divided and give a good visual progression. Also, the shoreline and water work together to create a leading line to the sunset.
