Winner and Finalists of Assignment #17 - Cold

This image is a good choice for black and white because the collar of the banded goose would draw a lot of attention away from the subject were the image in color. The confused geese standing on frozen water with very nice reflections evokes a nice sense of cold. The three geese together are a very strong composition and in a perfect world the back goose would not be included in the scene. But we are photographers, not painters, so we take what we can get in our subjects.
