This image is a good example of how subject orientations can change. While we think of a person as a vertical subject, they easily become horizontal when moving or lying down. With the child sitting and stretching out his arm he becomes much stronger horizontally than vertically. By complimenting his horizontal structure the photograph is able to crop out the distracting shapes visible in the vertical photograph.
