This image takes a vertical slice out of a larger horizontal subject (carousel). By using the vertical orientation the photograph better focuses on the vertical portrait of the cat. It does bear noting that the horizontal image could also have been rather strong by changing the framing to include the animal on the right that is looking at the cat.
