This image works very well in part due to the simplicity of the subject. The horseshoe is placed in a strong position using the rule of thirds and the plain wooden background does not detract from it. In fact, the weathered wood helps to add to the feel of the image very nicely. The slightly out of focus board on the right side of the image is a touch distracting, partially due to its lighter color.
