Sometimes we find ourselves looking for something "different" to photograph. Renaissance Faires and Festivals are excellent places to photograph something "different". Dozens (sometimes hundreds) of people in costume (both workers and visitors) populate these recreations of medieval villages for a few weeks at a time. Different festivals concentrate on different countries and slightly different time periods but overall you can expect to see: jousting, falconry, a king and queen, jugglers, acrobats, a village liar, pirates, Highlanders, knights, and occasionally fairies, sprites, and dragons.

While most festivals welcome cameras it is best to check before planning to attend as a few groups still prefer to keep the events as non-technological as possible. So take a step back in time and enjoy the unique photography opportunities that present themselves!
