Guide Review - Photography Lighting Review - Review of Vu-Pro Viper Softbox Quartz Lighting Kit
Vu-Pro's Viper Softbox Lighting Kit puts studio lighting back into the realm of hobby photographer's budgets. With three light heads putting out 1000 watts of adjustable light each and vented softboxes, this kit gives small budgets big spending power. Coming in at under $500 dollars, this kit is about half the price of most kits with this much power. The light heads also have a built-in cooling fan although the cooling fan does not run while the lights are off, increasing cool-down time. However, the vented softbox and removable front cover help to allow heat to escape in a reasonable amount of time for this type of lighting. The lighting output offers a near-infinite combination with a turn knob system that goes from 1/8 to full power. The quartz lights are a daylight color temp so that no filters are required to avoid yellow cast images. While the kit is heavy, it is still portable with the compact carrying case. Overall, this is a very nice choice for continuous lighting.
