The Bottom Line
Vu-Pro's Cool-V Fluorescent Lighting Kit is a good basic entry point into studio lighting for photographers wanting a little extra light without the fuss of high-maintenance transformers. However, another brand of fluorescent lighting would be a better choice for those not willing to deal with the difficulties of this kit.

Guide Review - Photography Lighting Review - Review of Vu-Pro Cool-V Fluorescent Lighting Kit
The Vu-Pro Cool-V Fluorescent Lighting Kit is a new take on the old "hot light" kits. Using daylight balanced output fluorescent bulbs this lighting stays much cooler than the older tungsten lights and does not require color correction filters. The included bulbs with this kit give off the equivalent to approximately 1000 watts of tungsten lighting. However, this lighting amount is still insufficient for portrait work in a room that does not already have good light. For work done where the ambient light is just slightly too little, this set is a nice addition to the lighting. However, bulbs in higher wattage can be purchased separately and the ceramic sockets are rated for an impressive 660 watt max.
The light stands are sturdy enough and very stable (someone tripped over the cord at a recent test and the stands stayed upright). However, the locking mechanisms on the set I received were not exactly right and required adjustment on my part to make them lock into position properly.
The octagonal soft boxes fold up very nicely but I found it physically impossible to assembly them completely. I was able to assemble 4 of the support rods to create a diamond soft box and because the diffuser attaches with velcro this still produced satisfactory results.
Overall, the basic kit is a good concept with some very annoying flaws. Still, for photographers who need a little extra light in an easily portable package this is a possible choice.
