Guide Review - Review of the Rogue Grid 3-in-1 Honeycomb Flash from ExpoImaging
More and more flash accessories are hitting the market as more photographers turn to multiple slave flash units instead of the larger old-style flash units. In a crowded field, ExpoImaging is proving themselves to be a leader in products that are easy to use, reasonably priced, and highly effective.
The Rogue Grid is a 3-in-1 honeycomb system that works with your add-on flash unit. It fits almost any standard hot shoe mount flash. A small snoot attaches to the front of the flash with velcro and then a flexible mount fits into the other end of the snoot. The Rogue Grid comes with 2 honeycomb inserts for the mount and these inserts can also be stacked to create a thicker insert. The two inserts create 45 degree and 25 degree circles of light. When stacked they create a 16 degree circle. As one would expect, there is more feathering with the larger 45 degree circle and the light feathering decreases as the circle becomes smaller.
If you've read my reviews on the Rogue Flashbenders, you'll already know I'm a fan that ExpoImaging product. One thing I love about the Rogue Grid is that you can easily use the mount with the Flashbenders in snoot configuration for even more light options. I don't notice a lot of light loss with the Rogue Grid either, which makes it easy to predict the outcome of a photo without a lot of test shots.
This grid system is honestly so easy to use that you don't need instructions. Just line up the small notches in the grid inserts and slide them into the mount. Wrap the snoot around the flash and insert the mount. That's all there is to it.
