The Bottom Line
The Nikon D90 is a nicely made, dependable camera with lots of functions. The main drawback is the lack of control the photographer has over how they control the camera. Control wheels are preset for certain functions in select modes and can not be changed. However, the wide variety of high quality lenses available for this camera and its exceptionally low noise at high ISO ranges makes this a very good option for most photographers.

Guide Review - Nikon D90 Review
The Nikon D90 camera is basically a step up from the D80. With 12.3 megapixel recording capability and 4.5 frames per second burst shooting, the D90 aims to please photographers in a wide variety of situations. The truly impressive feature of the D90 is its phenomenal handling of noise. At 1600 ISO the noise is barely perceptible. This allows photographers to stretch their shooting capabilities greatly in low light while still maintaining faster shutter speeds without sacrificing image quality. The D90 has a wide variety of pre-programmed shooting modes like most cameras do in today's market. The D90 also has a self-cleaning sensor via a shake feature (similar to what Pentax introduced with the K10D). The biggest gripe I have with this camera is the convoluted controls. The control wheels change function based on what mode you are currently in but offer no option for the photographer to customize the controls. This, and a huge array of menu options, makes using the D90 a bit frustrating at times and can significantly interfere with the image capture process. However, overall the D90 is a very powerful addition to the lower-end of the cost range in Nikon's line up.
