Facebook Photography Feeds You Should Subscribe To Now

By , About.com Guide

Facebook is a monster of people, pages, and groups. There are multiple pages labeled just "photography" and many have little to do with photography other than promoting some anonymous person's work. This list will help you cut through the confusion to find the "good" Facebook photography accounts to subscribe to now.

Do remember that since anyone can make a Facebook page under any name it is important to make sure you are "liking" the real page. Most companies have a link to their Facebook page on their websites or you can look in the info section of the Facebook page to see if the information sounds like it was cut and paste from Wikipedia or a real information blurb from the company. The icon is often a clue to a "real" page vs a fake page as well. Fake pages tend to have pixelated images that are obvious screen captures from another site. Official pages generally have better quality images. Official pages often have a nice welcome page as well that promotes the company's latest product or event.

4. NPPA

NPPA is The National Press Photographers Association. While geared towards photojournalists, NPPA is a great way to stay up to date on news that affects photographers in general and any legal issues photographers are facing while in the field. On Facebook, NPPA's president is a good feed to follow.

5. Your Local News Outlets

Subscribing to your local newspapers and news stations is a great way to stay up to date on possible photo opportunities. Sporting events, local festivals, and much more will be announced ahead of time. Local news groups are also more likely to announce news as it is happening on Facebook so occasionally you'll find out about flooding, hot air balloons landing on the interstate, approaching storms, and other photo possibilities quickly.

6. WTDComics

What the Duck is a comic about photographers and for photographers created by Aaron Johnson. He's currently reduced the strip to more weekly than daily but the Facebook feed is still a great source of laughs.
