How to Make the Copyright Symbol on Windows and Mac

It is probably the most used special character by photographers. The copyright symbol, ©, is used by photographers many times a day, usually in watermarks. While copyright law does not require you use the exact copyright symbol (you can spell out "copyright" or use "(c)" for example) it is easily recognizable and lends an air of credibility to your copyright notice.

How to Type the Copyright Symbol © on Windows

On Windows based computers you can add the copyright symbol anywhere text can be added with a few simple keystrokes. Press the "alt" key and hold it down while typing "0169" on the keyboard to create the © symbol.

Please note that on some netbooks with compressed keyboards, a "function" key must be pressed to access the number keys. For these keyboards, press "alt" then the key required to access the numbers, and then 0169.

For Mac computers you can add the copyright symbol anywhere text can be added with two keystrokes. Press the "alt" key (or "option") and hold it down while typing "g" on the keyboard to create the © symbol.
