The Bottom Line

The new Nextar 3.5" digital photo frame is surprisingly easy to use and has a display that can actually be seen in daylight. The display quality is good and this compact frame would fit nicely on most any desk with its sleek black design. Its only real drawbacks are that it can't run on batteries and its magnetic stand makes it unwise to set near some computer equipment. With a suggested retail of $49.99 this little photo frame is bound to become a favorite gift giving opportunity for many photographers.

Guide Review - Review of Nextar 3.5" Digital Photo Frame

The Nextar 3.5" digital photo frame displays images at approximately wallet size. The first thing that will catch your attention with this frame is that the "bright" display really is bright. Photos displayed on this frame do not have to be viewed in dim lighting conditions from a precise angle to be visible. This display truly does show off images very well, even in sunlight.

The display is 320x240 pixels so properly sized images will not take up much of the frame's 32MB internal memory. Images are transferred to the frame via SD/MMC/MS cards and can be run directly from a memory card rather than transferred to the frame. The controls are nearly completely intuitive with fairly standard icons on menu buttons (located on the top back of the frame). Buttons are mode, down, up, esc, and enter. Image displays can be single images or a slideshow with user selected display times. Images can also be manually rotated or zoomed.

The frame stand attached via a powerful magnet so I am concerned about placing it next to computer equipment but it does the job it is designed for. The stand stays on very well and holds the frame at a nice viewing angle.

Power is supplied to the frame either via USB or a DC adapter. The cord is a good length and should work well in most desk situations. With this frame's small size I do wish that battery power were an option but the supplied power accessories work very well.
