Zoo Photography - Dealing With Different Enclosure Types At Zoos
Now that you've taken our beginning lesson on zoo photography (Basic Zoo Photography Lesson), I have prepared an in-depth guide to zoo photography in regards to different types of cages/enclosures you will likely encounter at your local zoo.

There are a few basic styles of enclosure that are currently in favor with most zoos. These types of enclosures, or cages, are:
  • Traditional Wire/Bar Cage (squares of wire or horizontal/vertical straight wire)

  • Open Range Enclosure (large enclosures with no wire or glass between visitors and animals)

  • Glass Viewing (indoor or outdoor cages with large glass windows providing viewing access to the animals)

  • Combination Enclosures (cages that combine two or more of the above types)
