A well done portrait focusing on the expression of the bird.
What Works
- Color
The slight golden cast to the image works well with the directional lighting to create the idea of morning or evening. - Composition
The eye of the bird is near a rule of thirds intersection and the eye to beak creates a strong leading line to keep the eye on the face of the bird. The bird is also looking into the photo so that attention is kept within the frame rather than being pushed out of the frame.
What Doesn't Work
- Exposure
A bit overexposed on the chest of the bird but the eye of the bird is strong enough to carry the photo in spite of the overexposure.
You can read the story behind the image on the original photo submission page.
