What Works
- Lighting
One of the strongest things about this image is the wide variety of tonal shades. Light and dark fade softly across the scene, adding a lot of depth to the image. - Depth of Field
Depth of field lets us see the beginning of the pier and the boathouse in good focus so nothing distracts us form the feeling of being in the scene. - Composition
The rule of thirds zone method and leading lines are used well in this image.
What Doesn't Work
- Shadows
The tonal range is excellent but a touch of added light on the front of the boathouse to brighten it up a little bit would help add punch to the image.
