Leading up to PMA 2008 (the photography equivalent to the Consumer Electronics Show), Canon and Pentax have both announced new cameras and lenses.

Canon has announced the new Rebel XSi with 12.2 MP and enhanced high film speed noise reduction. Pentax has announced the new K20D with 14.6 MP, the K200D with 10.2 MP, the Optio M50 compact, the Optio A40 compact, and the Optio S12 compact which manages to pack 12 MP into a tiny body.

Canon's new lenses are their professional L-series lenses and are designed for EOS bodies. The EF200mm f/2L IS USM and the EF800mm f/5.6L IS are scheduled to be available in May and April of 2008. Pentax's new lenses are designed for their digital SLR line and are scheduled to be available in May and April of 2008 as well. The DA* 200mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM, DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM, DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED, DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited, and DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II add a wide degree of new functionality to Pentax's current lineup.
