Kidnapped Photographers Reported to Be Alive
Friday December 5, 2008
Nigel Brennan, Amanda Lindhout, and Abdifatah Mohammed Elmi were kidnapped in Somali back in August. Since then the information regarding these photographer/journalists has been sketchy at best. In September the kidnappers demanded a $2.5 Million ransom for the release of the photojournalists. Then, on October 13th, the kidnappers gave a 15 day deadline for the ransom to be paid or the captives would be killed. Since then there has been precious little information on the captives. Now the Calgary Herald reports that Reporters without Borders has confirmed that Nigel Brennan, Amanda Lindhout, and Abdifatah Mohammed Elmi are still alive and still being held by the same group. Talks are still continuing between local officials and the kidnappers although there is no detailed information on the status of these talks.
