Congressional Hearing on Photography at Union Station
Tuesday July 22, 2008
Today at 2PM Eastern time, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee of the US House of Representatives will hold a meeting regarding Union Station - including the recent issues with photography. Union Station has been plagued recently with cases of photographers being stopped from taking photos but higher officials later declaring photography is acceptable. Today's meeting will be webcast live so if you want to see firsthand what representatives think about all of this - now is your chance. According to the DCist, "representatives from the Union Station companies will testify, as well as the Director of D.C.'s Department of Transportation, and Erin McCann." Erin McCann is a DC area photographer who decided that enough was enough when it came to photographer harassment and has been a central figure in the Union Station uproar.

WOWWW!!!
I just listened to 50 minutes of testimony regarding photography in Union Station and all I can say is WOWWW!! EVERYBODY needs to listen to this! Ms. Norton BLASTED the Union Station management for their confusing policy regarding photography in Union Station and she cited SEVERAL Federal court cases involving 1st Amendment rights in shopping malls and other private and public property. The video of the hearing is available at:
