*Contest* Weekly Assignment 7 - Water

Before it gets too cold to be anywhere near water, this week's assignment is water. Still water, moving water, muddy water. Whatever water you chose to photograph, make the water the subject. Of course you can have other items in the image, but water should be the main focus.Remember when composing your images to keep in mind the basics - the rule of thirds, shutter speed, aperture, depth of field, and exposure.
And I'm pleased to announce that starting with this week's assignment, I'll be choosing a winner from submitted entries for display on this blog the following Wednesday! That's right, I'm building a photo contest into the weekly assignment! This is a great chance to get your photography seen by people all over the world. On October 24th I'll pick from the currently submitted assignments for posting to the blog.
To submit your assignment and enter the contest, simply go to the forum and post your image in the appropriate thread. Click HERE to go to the correct thread for this week's entries.

Hi Liz,
Maybe you should have a few rules for entering this contest, such as a deadline, # of photos that you can enter, etc.
Are you going to allow everyone to see the photos before the winner is announced? You probably don’t have any choice. But, the reason that I am asking this is because what I submit may allow someone else to one up my photo.
Just some thoughts. I actually thought about suggesting having a contest about 2 weeks ago, but I didn’t know how you would be able to work things out so I didn’t suggest it.

Thanks for the input Jim! Right now I want it to be as simple as possible. If the number of submissions per person becomes overwhelming I’ll consider limited the number at a later time.

Thank you for your reply. I have another question for you. What size photos do you prefer. I usually try to keep my images small because I don’t want other people to use them.

Are you going to have a 2nd and 3rd place for the contests?
To answer the size question. The blog image will be the same size as I usually post. That is 170px on the longest side. For the entries it would be great to have them a bit bigger. Keep at or under 500px on the largest side and you should be fine!
Of course, I forgot to mention the 2nd and 3rd place question. Right now I am planning on just a 1st place. But if the quality warrants it (and I know you guys can do it), I’ll post 2nd and 3rd places as well.

Thank you very much for answering my questions.
I like the weekly assignements. I enjoy doing them and really like the creative stimulation of seeing what others do. I just hope the competativeness does not get too great.
Are we going to have a gallery of some of these? Maybe a winners gallery?
I would like to see a gallery of all the entries, but that might be a lot of work.
